GanttProject Brno 2.6.2

Hello all! I am happy to announce that GanttProject 2.6.2, a maintenance update of GanttProject Brno line is available for downloading! We planned to publish it a few months ago, and we're sorry that it happened with such a significant delay.

On the good part, we've fixed a lot of bugs, added two new translations: to Tajik language, authored by Victor Ibragimov, and to Galician language, authored by
Xesús M. Mosquera Carregal (many thanks to both of them!) and updated translations to Serbian, Slovenian, Korean, Spanish, Romanian, Finnish, Japanese, Chinese, Estonian, please forgive me if I have missed something.

Also, some of you may like the product which I've been working on this year with my tiny team and which, naturally, drew me off GanttProject. If you're from academia world, or if you need to typeset complex documents, you may find interesting this shameless self-promotion

Announcing Papeeria, our new product

You all know that Google Apps and similar services have significantly changed the way we use software. Many people use cloud-based apps personally and many businesses, from small ones to huge corporations have adopted cloud services for their operations. At the same time, academia world, which I kinda connected with, is still tied to their desktops. Should they want to write a paper, they use LaTeX on their laptops. Should they need to run a computing experiment, they use their university cluster if one is available or, well, their laptop if it is not.

I am working with my small team on Papeeria, and our ultimate goal is to move the full stack of research tools online, so that researchers could run experiments, work on paper texts, build graphs from their data anywhere and at any moment. Call it Massive Open Online Research if you wish. We launched the first component just a few months ago.

It is an online LaTeX editor for high-quality typesetting

Yes, we know there are a few other services which offer online LaTeX typesetting. Competition is great and challenging. We don't plan to stick to typesetting, and we're working on other components of the research stack. Stay tuned, follow us on Google+ and on Twitter!

Forum sign-in system update

We've been experiencing sign-in issues on our forum during the last few weeks. It affected those who tried to sign in with Google account (which amounts to majority of forum users). At the moment of writing this issues should be resolved and Google accounts should work fine.

This came at some expenses:

  1. We discarded the usage of login service and now do communication with account providers on our own. So we support less providers (actually just three for now: Google, Twitter and Facebook).
  2. Some of the users who filled their profiles (e.g. specified email addresses to receive updates from forum) may find that their settings are gone. Please send us email in this case. No data was lost, we just can't always create a mapping between user ID which came to us from Loginza and user ID which we get from account providers directly.

On the pros side, we identify our site to Google as GanttProject, not as a strange third party service, and we fully control the authentication flow and UI (no more links to sites in Russian, yay!)

We plan to add other authentication options, such as email+password and OpenID, in the near future.

Thanks for being patient during this long partial outage!
